I just purchased singer 3232 sew simple and I like it. I am trying to sew a quilt together and I may be asking too much of this machine. It doesn't seem to want to sew thru layers of fabric without "bird caging". Am I not doing something right?

I seem to be having difficulty with the bobbin under the needle. The thread gets tied into knots. Then the needle is unthreaded. I can't find any information related to this problem. Can you help me please?

A:

You need to adjust the tensioner for the upper needle looser as well as make sure it is properly threaded. (Thread with swing arm up). Its called “thread bunching” look it up pk google as far as bobbin it must metal.

Looking for a VERY basic sewing machine. I learned how to sew in Home Ec in 7th grade in 1975 (!), never owned one but the prices have dropped and I want one to just sew pretty much straight seams for curtains. I don't need any fancy stitches and nothing computerized. I'm worried that I may not be able to thread a sewing machine that is so much different from the basic one I used many years ago. Any ideas? I saw these 2 and they seem basic but I don't know if "heavy duty" means that sewing regular weight fabric is not possible. Thoughts?

I am looking for a work horse of a sewing machine that will sew a variety of fabric thicknesses including upholstery fabric perhaps even leather, cuffing jeans and other slacks, and finally on the other end of the the thickness scale, silk such as slips and stretchy materials.
I have a Husqvarna which is like an early computer and to fancy for me. I can not do much on it despite recent tune up and even lessons. Please suggest a couple that might be good for me.

I am trying to decide between the Brother CS6000i and the Brother XR9500 PRW.. I will be making a baby quilt and bumpers along with curtains, etc. I see the 6000i comes with the walking foot and quilting foot. But the 9500 has other quilting accessories. Do both have the option of using the pedal and or button?

Janome HD3000 and SINGER Quantum Stylist. I am NOT a crafty person...but my husband IS. He wants a sewing machine that can handle leather projects. Belts, gauntlets (leather dog leashes for me!), strappy things for his steampunk goggles, maybe a leather jacket eventually. He has a lot more time to THINK and talk about what he wants to make vs actually being able to take the time to do it, so I'm not sure how often it will actually be used. I have researched and the two in my price range that seem to be the best for these types of projects are Janome HD3000 and SINGER Quantum Stylist. Since this little box popped up here and told me to ask the community a question, I thought more input from crafty people who actually USE the machines would be helpful. :) My husband is a big guy and has big hands so if one or the other wouldn't accommodate his big hands well that would be useful in helping me pick too. If there is a comparable - or better - machine in the same price range, please tell me about it too! Thanks for any and all input.

Hello there. I have never touched a sewing machine before and am doing some research on which would be the right one for me. My mind is swimming with all these terms that I'm trying to learn to have at least a basic understanding before purchasing my first one. My main reason for purchasing a sewing machine is to make cage liners for my son's guinea pigs using fleece, a uhaul pad (as an absorbent layer) and waterproof liner underneath those 2. I need a machine that will be able to go through that with no problem. I also would like one that is in the $150-$250 range. I am a crafter and I really believe that once I get started on a machine that's easy to learn on, there will be no stopping me so I'd like to get one that can grow a little bit as I do. I've looked at so many from the bottom to the top of the line. I think I'd like to steer clear of the Singer line as I've heard that their quality has gone down hill a little bit. Primarily I've been looking at Brother (specifically the Designio Series DZ2400, HC1850, and XR9500PRW). The more I look, the more confused I get about what would suit me the best. I could sure use some advice on a couple of options that would be best for what I'm trying to accomplish. Thank you in advance for any responses.

Hello,
I'm a beginner in sewing. I used to sew a bit and now I'd like to try also quilting. I'm trying to decide which machine to buy: Laura Ashley CX155la, Brother HC1850, Brother SQ9185, Brother XR3774 or Brother International CS6000i. I'd like to find out:
1. If the parts of the machine are made out of plastic or metal?
2. How wide is free arm cuff for sleeves?
3. Which one of those would be better for sewing and quilting?
Or maybe you know any other reliable brand that's good for beginners in sewing and quilting. My price range is under $350. Thank you in advance!

Hi, I'm trying to decide what sewing machine to buy. I want it to have great stitch quality, I want it to last, and I'd like to be able to make cloth diapers, quilts, some clothing, and basic embroidery. I want to spend $300 or less. I've looked at brother dz2400 and brother xr9500prw. I'm willing to get a different one though.
